A GLP-1 receptor agonist is a medication that binds the GLP-1 receptor to reduce appetite, slow gastric emptying, and improve blood sugar control.
This class includes semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus), liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda), and dulaglutide (Trulicity). Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) is a dual agonist that also targets the GIP receptor.
All of them reduce food intake substantially, which is why protein, electrolyte, and micronutrient planning is part of responsible treatment rather than an optional add-on.
